Growing Sugar Snap Peas From Seeds

SOWING:

Since this is a cool weather crop direct sow seeds several weeks before the last expected frost. Plant seeds in full sun and rich soil 2"-3" apart at 1" deep. When planting seeds, plant in double rows 10" apart to allow space for a trellis. A trellis is required as this is a vining plant and grow to about 6 feet tall.

As the vines begin to grow the trellis will be able to support the growing plants. After germination be sure to keep the sugar snap pea plants well watered during the growing season. Keeping the soil moist will therefore ensure a healthy and productive crop. Lastly apply mulch to help regulate soil temperature, maintain moisture and control weeds.

HARVESTING:
When your sugar snap peas have filled out as both the pod and the peas they are ready to harvest. You can also test the ripeness of sugar snap peas by simply breaking them in two. If they snap cleanly they are ready to harvest and enjoy! Sugar Snap Peas freeze very well. Ready to harvest in 65-70 days.
