Growing & Planting Atlantic Giant Pumpkin Seeds

Planting Seeds

Start pumpkin seeds indoors in peat pots about 4 weeks before the last frost. Sow seeds 1" deep and keep soil at 80-85F until germination. Provide natural sunlight or use a LED grow light for 12-16 hours a day. When the outside temperature reaches 70-75F, harden off your plants gradually before transplanting seedlings outside. After danger of last frost, transplant your pumpkin plant seedlings to garden in rich soil and full sun with about 8-10 feet between pumpkin plants and about 10-12 feet between rows.

Growing

Pumpkin plants grow very big, takes up lots of space and therefore needs plenty of room to grow. The vines can easily grow to 50 feet long. When watering your plants avoid getting the leaves wet as it can cause diseases. Always water at the base of the plants. As your pumpkins grow you'll want to pinch off the flowers to allow all the plants energy to go to already developing pumpkins. This helps concentrate the plants energy into growth of those pumpkins therefore helping improve its overall size. When growing outdoors apply a generous amount of mulch to conserve moisture and control weeds during the growing season.

Harvesting

Pumpkins should be harvested before the first frost. They can be harvested as soon as the stem begins to dry. With a sharp knife cut the stem leaving about a 2-3" length. Cure the pumpkins in the sun or a dry location until the stem shrivels.
