Germination:

Yellow Flag Water Iris require cold stratification for two to three months before planting the seeds. It needs to go through a cold period in order to germinate. Place your pond plant seeds in a dampened piece of paper towel in a small plastic bag or you can place them in a moist medium such as soil or sand in a small container. You can also plant your Water Iris seeds out in your ponds edge/bog directly and let them go through the cold period naturally and come spring they will germinate.

Place them in the fridge to go through the cold period. Check seeds periodically as germination may occur while in the fridge. If seeds germinate plant them in small individual pots.

As your yellow flag water iris begins to grow they'll look like little small spikes of grass. It's very important to always keep the soil moist at all times. Do not allow the seeds to dry out. Once your seedlings grow and become larger and more established plants, plant them in larger pots. Plant outside after seedlings have been hardened off.

Yellow Flag Iris prefer moist growing conditions, fertile soil and full sun. By providing the perfect growing conditions, you'll get the best blooming pond plants and flowers. Plants require two years before they will produce flowers. These water plants are very hardy once established. Divide plants every 3 years.
