Super Red Romaine Lettuce is an attractive variety to grow due to its intense red coloured leaves. When planted next to regular Romaine Lettuce it looks beautiful due to its contrast in colours. Romaine lettuce is one of the most popular of lettuces in both the garden, and the kitchen. Gardener's love it because it is fast growing, and forms a loose head, that is easy to harvest.  It takes up little space in the garden, too. It grows to about 12” tall and 10” wide. Super Red Romaine grows well in cool weather and can be direct sown in the soil when the temperature reaches 35 degrees F. Remember lettuce has shallow roots so it’s very important to maintain adequate moisture in order to stay tender and sweet. A good rule of thumb is to add a good layer of mulch to conserve moisture, control weeds and it helps keep the temperature of the soil cooler.
