Direct sow seeds inside 3-4 weeks before the last frost or outside after last frost. Plant seeds just below soil surface about 1/4" deep and water. Sweet Basil should be planted in rich soil, full sun and about 10"-12" apart after danger of last frost has passed.

Lastly apply a generous amount of mulch to conserve moisture and control weeds during the growing season.

You can begin to harvest sweet basil when the plants are still young at about 6-8". As your sweet basil plants become more established, the more you harvest basil leaves the more it produces. Production increases with continous regular harvesting. Sweet basil is perfect for using fresh in cooking or you can also dry your sweet basil for long term storage. One of the best ways to dry basil is by using a dehydrator, using your oven or simply hanging in a warm, dry location.
