Toro Highbush Blueberry Plants is a mid season variety with very good productivity. These Northern Highbush Blueberry Plants have excellent winter hardiness. These vigorous growing upright compact bushes grow to about 5-6 feet tall producing large clusters of bluberries. The fruit is large, firm, light blue in colour, with an excellent sweet flavour. The blueberries are also very easy to pick hanging off the branches. It's a good yielding variety and a great tasting blueberry variety to grow in the garden. This is a self pollinating variety however improved pollination and increased yield when planted near another Northern Highbush Blueberry variety. Hardy zone 4-7


Please note that it can take 3-4 years before they begin producing fruit. At full maturity blueberry plants can produce up to 15-20 pounds of blueberries per plant. Toro Highbush Blueberry Plants is a very cold hardy fruiting perennial shrub that can grow in zones 4-7.

Growing Toro Highbush Blueberry Plants


Planting
Toro Highbush Blueberry plants grow best in full sun and rich soil. It's recommended to add and mix in plenty of compost to the top several inches of soil. Blueberry plants need good drainage and acidic soil. In order to reduce the pH of your soil you'll need to add some sphagnum peat moss or some compost made with pine needles, leaves or bark. When planting blueberry plants you'll want to space them at least 4 feet apart in rows 7-8 feet apart.

During the growing season water frequently, apply mulch around the plants to maintain moisture and control weeds. You can add a light application of fertilizer late June or early July. To do so put fertilizer in a circle about 15 inches away from the base of the plant.


Harvesting
Blueberry plants can take 3-4 years before fruiting begins. It's not until year 5 or 6 that you'll reach full production. Highbush Blueberry Plants can produce 15-20 pounds of blueberries per plant at full maturity. Blueberry harvest will last 4-6 weeks beginning in early July into August.
